The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe released in theaters in Japan on November 17th 2023 and depicts the secret of Kitaro’s origins.
This movie commemorating the 100th anniversary of Shigeru Mizuki’s birth has been exceptionally popular, with a progressive growing number of screens after its release. Box-office revenues have now exceeded 2,47 billion yen and became the movie with the highest Box-office of the franchise.
This movie does not feature only horror elements but also suspense and emotional elements that can be thoroughly enjoyed.
In addition to the exceptional results, Kitaro has been nominated for the Japan Academy Awards in the Best Animation category. The winner will be announced on March 8th so stay tuned for it!
