Manga legend Shigeru Mizuki (1922–2015) created the iconic GeGeGe no Kitaro, blending Japanese folklore with ghost and monster tales. Its hero, the one-eyed boy Kitaro, last descendant of the Ghost Tribe, protects humans from supernatural threats while bridging the worlds of monsters and mankind.
On November 18th, polyband anime releases the feature film The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe in German-speaking countries.
Directed by Gō Koga, the film explores Kitaro’s origins, offering longtime fans and newcomers alike a thrilling introduction.
A massive success in Japan, the movie attracted over 2 million viewers, grossed 3.21 billion yen, and received the Excellent Animated Film Award at the 47th Japanese Academy Awards.
